Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) has announced the inclusion of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) as part of its Certified Duchenne Care Center (CDCC) Program, with the hospital also receiving PPMD’s newly established Clinical Research Designation, according to a recent news release.
PPMD is the largest U.S. nonprofit dedicated to DMD, and focuses on accelerating research and advocating for patients and families. PPMD’s CDCC program was designed to support standardized and comprehensive care for all patients living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Medical centers recognized by the CDCC program maintain the highest standards in care provision, including the rapid application of new knowledge and the standardization of care protocols.
Since the program’s start in 2014, over 35 centers have received CDCC certification. The PPMD’s Clinical Research Designation was launched in 2025 and was developed to recognize centers who sustain a commitment to excellence in clinical studies and research.

CHOP’s recognition as a CDCC underlines the hospital’s commitment to providing outstanding care to patients living with DMD and Becker muscular dystrophy. The additional Clinical Research Designation highlights CHOP’s commitment to offering families opportunities to participate in high-quality clinical studies and research.
““The neuromuscular team at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has evolved significantly over the past several years to continue serving their Duchenne and Becker population, and we are thrilled to include them in our network of certified centers,” Rachel Schafer, PPMD’s vice president, clinical care & education, said.
Eric Goode, PPMD’s CDCC program advisor, echoed the significance of the inclusion of CHOP in its expanding network of CDCCs, highlighting CHOP’s “commitment to providing outstanding clinical care and leading-edge research.”
